Dr. Catalina Sarmiento
(AKA DR. CATALINA)

Clinical Psychologist | Pronouns: She, Her, Hers

I  am registered as a clinical psychologist with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario to provide services for children, adolescents, and adults. I completed my graduate education (MSc and PhD) at the University of Western Ontario and my residency training at Hamilton Health Sciences.

Through clinical practica and residency, I have worked in a variety of settings, including hospitals (inpatient and outpatient), regional organizations, community mental health, university settings, and private practice. I have provided assessment and treatment services for a range of concerns.

Currently, I provide psychological assessment to children, adolescents, and young adults as well as intervention and consultation services to children, adolescents, and adults in the following areas:

  • Anxiety
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder
  • Depression
  • Life transitions
  • Adjustment and stress management
  • Parent support and guidance
  • Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder
  • Learning disabilities
  • Intellectual abilities (e.g., intellectual disability, giftedness)
  • Autism spectrum disorder

I use an evidence-based, integrative, and collaborative approach, drawing primarily from cognitive behavioural and third wave approaches, including acceptance and commitment therapy and dialectical behaviour therapy. I strive to create a warm, supportive, and non-judgmental environment where clients feel understood and actively involved in the process.

I have a particular interest in working with parents, drawing from Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE), Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (CPS), and emotion-focused approaches. This work can complement a child’s or adolescent’s individual therapy or can be a stand-alone intervention when a child or adolescent is not yet ready or open to participating in therapy themselves.

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family – including my dog, Maya.
