I am a Clinical Psychologist registered with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario. I provide psychological services to children, adolescents, and families. I also provide clinical supervision and mentorship to psychology graduate students.
I believe that meaningful therapeutic change is not possible without first establishing a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship. I will work with clients to understand their personal style, strengths, needs and goals. Based on this information, I will tailor services to best meet their identified therapeutic goals. My therapeutic approach is integrative, which means that I use a variety of evidence-based techniques mainly from relationship-, emotion-, and cognitive behavioural-focused therapies. My goal is to understand the client as a whole person, considering their early histories, learning styles, and social-emotional functioning. When possible and therapeutically indicated, I strive to work collaboratively with parents/caregivers, and other key individuals in the client’s life. I believe that strengthening interpersonal connections is key to building resiliency. I also believe that a well-coordinated community approach is more effective in supporting the client’s growth and recovery. Therefore, with client consent, I will consult with other community care providers including physicians, school teams, and mental health workers.
My core beliefs as a psychologist stem from many experiences including growing up on the West Coast of Canada as the eldest child within an Asian immigrant family; training at the School and Clinical Psychology Program at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education/University of Toronto where I completed my graduate studies; and working in a variety of rural and urban clinical settings including, school boards, community mental health agencies, children’s hospitals, and private practice. I have also been mentored by several exceptional psychologists (Dr. Ken Kwan, Dr. Andrea Walters, Dr. Laurel Townsend) who have each left a significant impression about the common factors (key ingredients) needed for success in therapy.
In my free time, I enjoy going for walks with my husband and dog (Rocky), trying out new recipes in my kitchen, and growing my own food in the garden.
